64 Skylark Trans - what is it?

Have a 64 skylark (300v8) with a 2spd trans, is this the ST300? Are there any recommended upgrades like higher stall converter or later year / same model trans? Is the '64 a variable pitch trans & what is the significance of this? I saw a seperate discussion that mentioned the '64 ST400 is not VP.

I can pick up a trans (w/55k miles) out of a nice 4 door 66 skylark (also 300v8) at the wrecking yard, would it be worth it for $100?

you have a SuperTurbine 300. The used trans would be worth $100 IF you know its good or they guarantee it to be good. As you know, there is no way to test a trans unless its behind a running engine.
