Buick 322 Aluminum Flywheel - Help Identifying

I started tearing down my 1954 Buick 322 engine. It has an aluminum flywheel and 11" clutch. It's partially cleaned, but I can find any numbers or name on it. Anyone recognize it? Can the steel insert be turned? See pictures. Thanks, Walt

Looking around, I only come up with Harvey aluminum flywheel, but I don't think that is what you have.

Take it to the shop you want to surface it and see if they will. I don't see any problem with doing it. Usually the amount taken of is small, I would just keep up a good coolant flow and do it.

Interesting piece! Tell us how it turns out!

The issue with grinding aluminum flywheels with steel inserts is that the steel insert usually has loosened up some from heat expansion. Other than that its not too bad except the flywheel grinder wheel tends to load up on the aluminum. You can probably tighten up the rivets if needed.

You cannot just grind the steel part because then you reduce the clamping load from the pressure plate. You have to do the entire surface.
