dash removal

Good morning,
Is removal & installation of the dashboard a fairly straight job,or are there tricks of the trade that I should be aware of?Mine is a '55 Special.Thanks.

I just took one out of a '55 Super. Nothing special. All surrounding trim has to come of (save the screws, unusuall). If I recall, removing the glove compartment box helped. Disconnecting the heater cables was a pain. Most of the wiring disconnected at the fuse box, but keep an eye out. Removing the steering wheel helped, also the clamps fro the steering column. That is about all I can remember. In the end, a good solid yank and a lot of manuvering was required to get it out.

Hey Iddie, Happy New Year!!!:waving: If it's like my 56 was You have to pull the trim at the base of the windshield and the corners, then there are some screws on the top of the pad, then take the screws out at the front and under the pad. Once you get all the screws out you can lift the pad off and get at everything back there. Not sure if you need to pull the whole assy. out or if you just need to access all the electrical back there. Good luck, Bill:beers:

Hey Faust and 56cent,
Thanks for the quick replies.I'm not sure whether I'm going to pull it or not.I'm having a big debate with myself & my lazy side is winning right now.I was basically just wondering how difficult it would be if I decided to pull it for paint.Happy new year to you guys.

Sledhead, I took out the courtesy lamp also, just keep looking, I don"t think there is anything else. Good luck, Bill:thumbsup:

I haven't even started yet.If the big screen LCD TV that we got for Christmas would release me from its spell I could get something else done.

Hey Tom,
Good to hear from you.Happy new year.I was just thinking out loud.My Buick is green & white. The dash is black, and I thought about pulling it to paint.I really don't think I'm going to disturb it though.
