driveshaft length

Is there a way to calculate the standard length factoring the year make and model, the engine size, and transmission model(there are several different tail shafts) or should I just measure the distance from the trans to the u-joint, and have my existing drive shaft shortened?

Best bet is to ask whoever will make your driveshaft.

My guy asked me to insert the yoke all the way into the tranny, back it out one inch, then measure the distance from the CL of the front yoke (where the Ujoint goes) to the front of the pinion (where the rear ujoint goes).
