I have a 68 Special DeLuxe that suppossedly has a 70 Special engine (350) in it. How do tell what the block is and what it came out of? The intake has casting numbers 1231381 at rear top of intake. thanx for any help

1968 was the first year of Buick 350 production so a v8 should be 350ci regardless, unless you've got a big block.

find the two letter Engine Code between the #1 and #3 spark plugs on the deck of the block and that will tell you year, displacement and a range of models that could have originally hosted the engine.

'SP' is the hot 350 from 1970.

a Buick 350 has 6 bolts securing each valve cover, 3 on each rail.

a Buick 455 has 5 bolts securing each valve cover, 3 on top rail and 2 on the bottom rail.
