Hey guys once again I need some help or advice which would be much appreciated.i have a 1975 Buick Electra 225,455 big block and need to know if there is any location other then dash or door jam to find the vin.the guy who painted the car also did the interior work and upon removing things for paint and stitch he accidentally discarded the vin tags! I bought the car from my older brother (whom purchased it with a bill of sell with title info) but he can't find it.i looked under the car on the frame, driver side, near gas tank and found the numbers '04085B1'.I also looked on the driver side manifold between the 2 spark plugs and found a single number that read "1".I've searched high and low and can't find any other numbers any help would be greatly appreciated

So, do you know the VIN, was it on the bill of sale? Is there any way to track down the correct VIN?

No I don't know the vin.my older brother had the bill of sell and gave it to my grandmother for safe keeping.unfortunately she passed from COVID and we haven't been able to find the bill of sell amongst her belongings

We also went back to the guys house he bought the car from and he to has passed a couple years ago

In the glove box there is often an accessory list, or the build sheet usually found under the back seat. In my experience I have rarely found the build sheet.

Is there a warranty book in the glove compartment. I am not sure if there was still a Protect-O-Plate in the back of that book in that year. But, that would have all the numbers stamped in it if available.

I've looked there and under backseat for the buildsheet but there's nothing there, like I stated the interior guy took everything out of the car including the dash and floor carpet and just discarded or misplaced whatever he wanted to,that's why the vin plate on the dash is missing

Does the car have the original engine? The last 8 characters of the VIN are stamped on the right front of the block to act as the engine serial number. See attached page from the shop manual.

The transmission has these characters stamped into the left side of the case as a serial number too.

Once this partial VIN is located, the rest of the VIN can be recreated by process of elimination.

Not sure if the guy pulled the front fenders off your car during the rework. I recently found the build sheet for my ‘76 Olds Delta 88 in the void behind the driver’s door hinges. It is like an 8-1/2 x 11” potato chip - haven’t figured out how to read it yet!

Omg your awesommeee man!! I've rubbed, scraped, sanded, washed the frame front to back and the motor top to bottom for the past 2 weeks looking for that number, even did a ton of research, reading, forums, manuals, and finally it's right where the pic you shared with me said it would be thanks man means a lot

If I look at the shop manual, HERE, page 0A-5, it looks like your first 4 should be a "T" for 455, then 5 for 1975, H for Flint, and then production number sequence.

Ok.and I noticed the motor doesn't even have a color I'm starting to think sometime in the past someone may have did a swap

Ok I think I just figured it out.i read somewhere else that says the 4 is for Buick, the 5 is for 1975,the H is plant manufacturer code, and the last 5 is vin code that matches transmission.sounds kind of accurate?

Is the car a 2-door or 4-door?

Is it an Electra Custom or Electra Limited?

Remember the complete VIN has 13 characters.
