intake casting #

Have a 71 350-4 with 72 heads. The intake has casting # on back 1238647. I have compared this to the #'s listed for the Buick engines on atlantabuick.com website, and it doesn't match any of them. Anyone know what engine/year this intake came from? The full # is B-1238647-2, also shows B/7. I do know this engine was professionaly rebuilt about 6,000 miles ago, in about 1996, and the receipt says "recon heads".

The NHRA lists that manifold # for a 72 350 with 195 HP. Now you can rest easy!

Dr.F., So I've got a 71 block, which rated 260 hp stock, 72 heads and a 72 intake that only rated 195 hp.(was 72 the year they changed how HP was stated?) It was rebuilt 3 yrs, 6000 miles ago for $2700. The receipt is hard to read, but it does show it's .030 over and has forged TRW pistons #L2343F. Has stock exhaust manifolds and Flowmasters, electronic ignition, Carter AFB Comp carb, Wolverine cam pkg WG-1033. Any idea what compression I'm getting out of this? Likely HP with this setup? This is going to be a 3 season driver up here in North Dakota, with no racing, legal or otherwise, not gonna take it to a track to check out times...gotta look out for my little 3-yr old's future, you know! And repair funds are pretty low after the purchase this summer! Thanks for any input. Sadly, I just put her away for the winter.

I have to make this quick (I am at work). 72 was the year they changed the HP rating from gross to as installed. The head CCs, valves and pistons were the same in 72 as in 71 according to the NHRA specifications. Forged pistons can be heavier than cast, and I dont think the TRWs had any more compression than the 10.25 to compression in the 260 HP 350 engine. That leaves the cam and carb. I dont think a cam alone could produce more than 25-30 HP. The new carb may help some with the increased air flow required by the bigger cam, but a bigger carb and cam won't help too muck until you can move more air out. Headers would help the cam move more air out and let you take advantage of the larger cam and Carb. I think with headers your current combination could gain 45-50 hp over stock and may be 25-30 over stock as it sits. That is my rough guess only. Hope that helps.
