'56 Tank
:waving: Hey Dale,
Sorry if my previous post was mis-understood!
The $75.00 Bucks, that I was referring to was for a
Sending Unit
I refurbished my tank with a kit from POR-15.
It was a lot of work but it turned out
"Splended"
Sorry for the confusion
Re: Fuel Tank Restoration
:wavey: Hey Guys!
I did a Fuel Tank Restoration on my tank last year and I couldn't be more pleased with the finished product.
It turned out "Splendid" :bana:
I think that the problem your are experiencing is due to the tank not being completely clean and/ or bone dry.
It looks like you will have to start from scratch or call eastwood and see what their recomendations are.
I used the Por-15 Kit.
You can't rush this procedure. Take Your time. It can't all be done in one day!
I had a tank that had 3 gallons of old gas that was sitting in the tank for 33 years. (The car sat idle from 1970 to 2003) Who knows how much was original in the tank and how much evaporated by what was left was 3 1/2 gallons of coffee colored Varnish/Lacquor.
I cleaned the tank twice as instructed. The second rince the water was still discolored and the tank still smelled like gas.
I went and got a couple of those different size and shape wire brushes that attach to a drill along with some shaft extensions that set screw together.
I wire brushed the inside of the tank (through the 2" hole for the sending unit) the best I could (up down and all around).
I rinsed the thank again after the wire brushing and then repeated the cleaning Process again TWICE untill the rinse water was clean and the tank not longer smelled of gas.
The Cleaning solvent has to sit for a while to do it's job and every step of the process requires that you position the tank at different angles over entended periods of time.
I used a Wheel Barrow which aided me into getting position for the proper angles and coverage.
The Second step is the Metal Etching and you pretty much do the same thing letting the liquid cover and set over periods of time to get coverage.
I set mine at different angles for an hour or so.
ALSO: In between steps they say that the tank has to be dry, They mean Bone Dry like the Sahara! NO MOISTURE OR CONSENSATION!
Air Dry or use a Hair Dryer and let the Tank sit out in the direct hot sunlight for a few hours to bake it a bit and ride the tank of any moisture.
You can't rush a job if you expect it to last a lifetime.
Do it ONCE and Do it Right!
If You aren't crystal clear on anything I have explained. Feel free to Ask.
